These plugs are factory-flashed with the Tasmota firmware and are designed to function without relying on a free cloud service that could be put behind a paywall at any time.
CloudFree supports Tasmota by donating a portion of its profits to the open source developers that helped make this product possible.

Installed this plug yesterday at home and connected it to Home Assistant. It is just a matter of minutes and then you are able to control the plug and see all data flowing in. Recommended if you want to be in control of your own data and do not want to upload it to a third party.

It was a little bit of a challenge to set it up (as already advertised). But I really like to play with it and find out how to make it work. I already found out how to configure it locally via Home Assistant and control it via a Python script. I really like that the hardware and software is open-source. Everything should be like that!

No need for third-party smartphone apps with suspicious permission requirements. Setting up the wi-fi password can be done in like 30 seconds without installing any app. Just connect to plug’s initial wi-fi, setup your wi-fi ssid and password, and its done. With tuya plugs this initial setup/pairing process usually fails several times, and is very painful. I haven’t yet tested the MQTT API, but since it is open, I expect it to be much more straightforward than dealing with Tuya API, which is a nightmare indeed.
